How To: Choose the Right AC For Your Property

Window unit

What is it? This unit sits in your window and cools one room. All the components are contained in a small box that is installed in a wall or on a windowsill.

Price range: $

Is it right for me? A window unit is the cheapest option available, although it won’t cool as well as a mini-split or a central air system. It is a cost-effective solution to cool down individual spaces, but it’s not ideal for more than one room.

Ductless mini-split

What is it? The ductless mini-split is comprised of two sections--the outdoor condenser and the internal evaporator. These two sections are directly connected by tubing that circulates refrigerant.

Price range: $$-$$$

Is it right for me? This option is most cost-effective for one or two units. The ductless mini-split system a great way to independently cool a new home addition or a few rooms within an older home that doesn’t have an existing duct system.

Central air conditioner

What is it? One outdoor unit holds the evaporator, condenser, and compressor in one box-like unit. Ducts connected to the unit run through the interior and provide cool air throughout your home.

Price range: $$$

Is it right for me? This option is more expensive than the other two, but it’s more effective for a family home and a better long-term cooling option than a window unit.
